A Royal Start
The beginning of the Kings goes way back to 1945, when the team joined the National Basketball League as the Rochester Royals. The Royals tasted success almost immediately and won NBL championship victories two years in a row in 1946 and 1947. In 1948, the team was shifted to the BBA, which in turn merged with the NBA just a year later. The Royals still managed to keep their winning streak into the NBA, clinching yet another championship win in 1951.
In 1957, the Royals were moved to Cincinnati and even though they played well in the court, they started losing money. Even though talks about relocation and financial crisis began, the team stayed until 1972, after which it shifted to Kansas City. While the team played well, it seemed to be dogged with bad luck and some truly bizarre scandals. A winter storm caused the roof of their stadium to collapse and then the teams general manager was found guilty of reusing old postage stamps. In 1985, the team was moved to Sacramento.
