The Word On Window Coverings

September 6, 2008

Once upon a time, window coverings served more purposes than just being decorative. They were used to block light, cold and heat. With the advent of better window technology, they became less utilitarian, more ornamental window coverings.

For some, the terms curtains and drapes are used interchangeably, but there is a difference. Drapes are the more formal of the two. Theyre generally floor-length and use a rod and hook system. Pulling a cord opens and closes them. Curtains, on the other hand, are more informal. Theyre generally on a rod as well, but theyre opened and closed by pulling the fabric into position.
